"Broken Land" A song for Haiti from Bahai Youth Canada.

This song was written by two Bahai youth from Canada, JC and Karim, in response to recent events in Haiti.

The Baha'i community looks upon the natural world as a unified system in which all beings are connected together whether they are plants, animals or microbes. Cooperation and reciprocity are seen as essential attributes of coexistence in nature. Change is natural and continual in all life but disruptive and powerful change caused by human greed, reckless behaviour and ruthless consumption patterns does not give nature time to adapt.

Baha'i writings illustrate the concept of interconnectedness of nature: "Although outwardly cataclysms are hard to understand and to endure, yet there lies a great wisdom behind them which appears later. All the visible material events are inter-related with invisible spiritual forces. The infinite phenomena of creation are as interdependent as the links of a chain. When certain links become rusty, they are broken by unseen forces, to be replaced by newer and better ones. There are certain colossal events which transpire in the world of humanity which are required by the nature of the times".

The heartbreaking tragedy that has befallen the nation of Haiti has stirred the world with compassion and prompted an outpouring of support. Governments and international humanitarian agencies are mounting an urgent and complex relief operation to provide much-needed food, water, medical supplies and other life-saving interventions to the millions who have been affected by the earthquake.

Our care and concern encompasses the entire nation of Haiti, both in its hour of dire need and in the coming months and years of long-term reconstruction. While such devastating natural disasters fill us with feelings of awe and consternation, we find hope in the thought that through these tests, humanity is brought closer together. The Baha'i writings on suffering and tests state:
"... When such a crisis sweeps over the world no person should hope to remain intact. We belong to an organic unit and when one part of the organism suffers all the rest of the body will feel its consequence. This is in fact the reason why Baha'u'llah calls our attention to the unity of mankind. But as Bahá'ís we should not let such hardship weaken our hope in the future... "

Bahai Gardens UNESCO

The Terraces of the Bahá'í Faith, also known as the Hanging Gardens of Haifa, are garden terraces around the Shrine of the Báb on Mount Carmel within Haifa, Israel. Described as the Eighth Wonder of the World, they are one of the most visited tourist attractions in Israel.

The Bahá'í Faith is a monotheistic religion founded by Bahá'u'lláh in nineteenth-century, emphasizing the spiritual unity of all humankind.

Throughout history, God has revealed Himself to humanity through a series of divine Messengers, whose teachings guide and educate us and provide the basis for the advancement of human society. These Messengers have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad. Their religions come from the same Source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God.

Baháulláh, the latest of these Messengers, brought new spiritual and social teachings for our time. His essential message is of unity. He taught the oneness of God, the oneness of the human family, and the oneness of religion.

Bahá'u'lláh said, The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens, and that, as foretold in all the sacred scriptures of the past, now is the time for humanity to live in unity.

Die Bahá'í-Religion

Unsere Welt befindet sich in einer Phase tiefgreifender Veränderungen. Wichtige geistige Impulse empfängt die Menschheit in solchen Zeiten stets von der Religion. Religionsstifter wie Abraham, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Krishna, Christus und Mohammed haben jeweils entscheidend zur ethischen und kulturellen Entwicklung der Menschheit beigetragen.

Bahá'u'lláh (1817 bis 1892) ist der Stifter der Bahá'í-Religion. Er erkennt die Ihm vorausgegangenen Religionsstifter als Gottgesandte an und beansprucht gleichzeitig, jüngstes Glied in einer Kette der Gottesboten zu sein und die Verheißungen der früheren Religionen zu erfüllen.

Die Bahá'í-Religion stellt eine unabhängige Offenbarungsreligion dar und stimmt in ihren ethischen Kernaussagen mit den anderen Hochreligionen überein. Darüberhinaus enthält sie jedoch zahlreiche Elemente, die neue Impulse für die Entwicklung der Menschheit darstellen und für das friedliche Zusammenleben aller Völker unabdingbar sind.

Die Werke des Religionsstifters Bahá’u’lláh stellen die Heilige Schrift der Bahá’í dar. Sie sehen darin das Wort Gottes, so wie auch in den Schriften des Vorläufers Báb.

Bahá’u’lláh hat umfangreiche Schriften hinterlassen, bestehend aus Büchern, Abhandlungen, Briefen, Gedichten und Gebeten. In den „Sieben Tälern“ legt Er den mystischen Weg zu Gott dar, die „Verborgene Worte“ enthalten ethische und spirituelle Weisheitssprüche. Das „Buch der Gewissheit“ erläutert die theologischen Grundlagen des Bahá’í-Glaubens und legt zugleich Bahá’u’lláhs Ansatz für die Einigung der Religionen dar. Neben dem bereits erwähnten „Heiligsten Buch“, in welchem das Religionsgesetz enthalten ist, hat Bahá’u’lláh in einer Reihe weiterer Abhandlungen die Prinzipien des Weltfriedens und der künftigen Weltordnung beschrieben („Botschaften aus Akka“).

Die Werke Bahá’u’lláhs sind ursprünglich in den beiden Sprachen Persisch und Arabisch niedergeschrieben worden. Die Originale dieser Schriftstücke sind bis heute erhalten, was deren Authentizität gewährleistet. Die Bahá’í lesen diese Schriften aber in ihrer jeweiligen Muttersprache, denn die wichtigsten Werke sind bereits in über 800 Sprachen übersetzt worden.

Neben dem Wort Gottes nehmen die Schriften `Abdu’l-Bahás ebenfalls große Bedeutung für die Bahá’í ein. Da er von Seinem Vater zum Ausleger von dessen Schriften ernannt worden war, wird seinen Erläuterungen besondere Wichtigkeit beigemessen. Auch die Schriften Shoghi Effendis, der - ebenfalls als Ausleger der Schriften eingesetzt – mehrere Bücher verfasste und eine umfangreiche Korrespondenz unterhielt, werden als wichtig erachtet.

The Bahá'í Faith is the youngest of the world's independent religions. Its founder, Bahá'u'lláh (1817-1892), is regarded by Bahá'ís as the most recent in the line of Messengers of God that stretches back beyond recorded time and that includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Krishna, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad.

The central theme of Bahá'u'lláh's message is that humanity is one single race and that the day has come for its unification in one global society. God, Bahá'u'lláh said, has set in motion historical forces that are breaking down traditional barriers of race, class, creed, and nation and that will, in time, give birth to a universal civilization. The principal challenge facing the peoples of the earth is to accept the fact of their oneness and to assist the processes of unification.

One of the purposes of the Bahá'í Faith is to help make this possible. A worldwide community of some five million Bahá'ís, representative of most of the nations, races and cultures on earth, is working to give Bahá'u'lláh's teachings practical effect. Their experience will be a source of encouragement to all who share their vision of humanity as one global family and the earth as one homeland.
