The Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program

Baha'i junior youth programs aim to assist young people, as they move from childhood through adolescence, to develop their spiritual qualities, virtues, their intellectual capabilities, and their capacities for service to society.

Designed for young people aged between 12 and 15, the programs adopt a participatory mode of learning where the facilitator and participants learn from each other.

Participants are engaged in activities such as artistic expression, discussion, drama, cooperative games, study of literature, story telling and acts of community service. They are encouraged to develop a strong sense of purpose, empowering their own transformation and leading them to contribute to the advancement of society.

Junior youth programs are based on the teachings of Bahaullah. They are open to all, subject to parental approval. Classes are held on a regular basis and there is no written homework.

All program facilitators are certified under the Bahai Child Protection Policy, which includes a mandatory police check.

To get in touch with the community nearest you, please see the Bahá'í World website, for contact details of the Bahá'ís in your country.

Children´s Classes all over the world Bahaí

Bahá'í children's classes

Of all our treasures, the most precious are our children! Local Bahá'í communities around New Zealand invite all children to join their regular children's classes.

What are the basic themes taught in these classes?

  • knowledge of God — the loving Creator of all
  • the spiritual nature of all people
  • the importance of prayer
  • moral and character education
  • development of the virtues — the divine qualities within each child
  • respect for parents and elders
  • the importance of family
  • elimination of all prejudice
  • celebration of unity in diversity
  • the essential oneness of all the world's major religions
  • world peace begins with each one of us
  • men and women are equal
  • service to others is the best way to worship God

Learning to practise the virtues is central to the programme in Bahá'í children's classes.

  • Trustworthiness
  • Purity
  • Friendliness
  • Service
  • Politeness
  • Determination
  • Cooperation
  • Generosity
  • Courtesy
  • Courage
  • Self-discipline
  • Perseverance
  • Creativity
  • Cleanliness

These are just some of the virtues highlighted in Bahá'í children's classes.

Education must be spiritual as well as material. Spiritual education embodies those virtues or attributes which, when kindled in the hearts and minds of children, not only guide their morals, but also enhance their material education.

We must love and respect people from all religions. All the major religions have sprung from the same Source and all have played their part in God's unfolding guidance to mankind.

The children will learn about the Bahá'í Faith and will study the lives of the Founders of all the world's great Faiths and their basic teachings.

How are Bahá'í children's classes carried out?

The children's class programme is well organised, systematic, and follows a curriculum that is designed to meet the needs of children at different age levels.

Teachers in charge of classes are all approved by the Bahá'í Assembly and all have minimum training. Teachers have assistants to ensure the smooth running of the classes.

Art! Music! Dance! Drama!

All classes endeavour to make use of the arts – especially music and singing.

Homework? Yes! The virtues must be practised every day at home and in the wider community and memorisation of prayers and of other passages is regarded as important.

The Bahá'í teachings put great emphasis on deeds not words.

What about the parents?

Parents are invited to study all the materials and lesson plans in the curriculum. These are available for all parents. Parents are also very welcome to attend the classes and to assist the teachers with supervision.

Are there any costs?

There are no course fees but there may be a small charge to cover the costs of materials used by the children.

Who can I contact to enrol my children and or to find out more about these classes?

Many local Bahá'í communities around the world hold children's classes. To get in touch with the community nearest you, please see the Bahá'í World website, for contact details of the Bahá'ís in your country.

Chanting: Mehdi Rezwan
Percussion: Armin Heislitz
Produced by Mike K. Downing

53 souls on the streets of Shiraz
Out to share their message of love
with youth from deprived backgrounds
breezes of confirmation floating around

All were captured and put into a cell
Their social deeds were thus ignored
into deep grounds they fell
Mis-judgement of their Baha'i belief
the cause of such grief

Confined in a prison
captured for their passion
May God burst their cage asunder
and let their souls soar

Haleh, Sasan, Raha you are the same age as me
29, 32, 33
imprisoned in a cell without a bed or a chair
without medicine, movement or a bit of fresh air

I cannot understand
how you deal with such pain
Injustice, maltreatment
where is the gain
Your souls must be so strong
to be tested like this

Confined in a prison
captured for your passion
May God burst your cage asunder
and let your souls soar.

Bahai Gardens UNESCO

The Terraces of the Bahá'í Faith, also known as the Hanging Gardens of Haifa, are garden terraces around the Shrine of the Báb on Mount Carmel within Haifa, Israel. Described as the Eighth Wonder of the World, they are one of the most visited tourist attractions in Israel.

The Bahá'í Faith is a monotheistic religion founded by Bahá'u'lláh in nineteenth-century, emphasizing the spiritual unity of all humankind.

Throughout history, God has revealed Himself to humanity through a series of divine Messengers, whose teachings guide and educate us and provide the basis for the advancement of human society. These Messengers have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad. Their religions come from the same Source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God.

Baháulláh, the latest of these Messengers, brought new spiritual and social teachings for our time. His essential message is of unity. He taught the oneness of God, the oneness of the human family, and the oneness of religion.

Bahá'u'lláh said, The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens, and that, as foretold in all the sacred scriptures of the past, now is the time for humanity to live in unity.

Learning to Coexist, Learning to live in Peace.

http://flourishcounseling.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/co_exist_by_c3b4.jpg

The fundamental purpose of all religions is to bring man nearer to God, and to change his character, which is of the utmost importance. Too much emphasis is often laid on the social and economic aspects of the Teachings; but the moral aspect cannot be overemphasized. (Shoghi Effendi, September 6, 1946)

Believers are urged not to get discouraged, because all the trials are temporary and will pass away, an as the love for God grows, we should concentrate on the constructive work of exemplifying the Faith. All religions are in perfect harmony with one another, they contain universal truth with do not change! One of them is peace.

Baha'i: "War is death while peace is life."

Christianity: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God."

Confucianism: "Seek to be in harmony with all your neighbors ... live in peace with your brethren."

Buddhism: "There is no happiness greater than peace."

Hinduism: "Without meditation, where is peace? Without peace, where is happiness?"

Islam: "God will guide men to peace. If they will heed Him, he will lead them from the darkness of war to the light of peace."

Taoism: "The wise esteem peace and quiet above all else."

Sikhism: "Only in the name of the Lord, do we find our peace."

Judaism: "When a man's ways please the Lord, He maketh even His enemies to be at peace with Him."

Jainism: "All men should live in peace with their fellows. This is the Lord's desire."

Zoroastrianism: "I will sacrifice to peace, whose breath is friendly."

Shinto: "Let the earth be free from trouble and men live at peace under the protection of the Divine."

The website's goal is to inspire people to talk about life's big questions and explore their own spirituality and creativity through art, music, photography, social networking, thoughtful discussion and more.

What do Baha'is believe?

Bahá'ís believe that there is one God, that all humanity is one family, and that there is a fundamental unity underlying religion. They recognize that the coming of Bahá'u'lláh has opened the age for the establishment of world peace, when, as anticipated in the sacred scriptures of the past, all humanity will achieve its spiritual and social maturity, and live as one united family in a just, global society.
